Tension is the most common cause of headaches and other pains that we feel within our body. Usually, what people do to relieve this tension induced headache is to take anti-anxiety drugs and sedatives. These drugs are fast acting and seem to be the best remedy for headaches. However, the use of these drugs can not give us a lifelong relief from headaches. These drugs can even lead to a more serious problem since anti-convulsive and sedative drugs may cause dependence in the part of the individual after long term use. The curative effect of these drugs are just temporary which means that you need to pop a pill each time you feel tensed and anxious.

While it can be embarrassing, frustrating, and sometimes frightening, for the most part, this type of behavior by toddlers is a normal phase that they all pass through. It's a part of their growth and development, and usually results from a frustration at not being able to express themselves, whether it is wanting a toy, or wanting your attention.
The phase can hit anywhere from 14 months and up, but tends to be more noticeable when the child is exposed to others, which could mean in a childcare center, or social setting. Even children who are linguistically advanced for their ages, are still children, and will be prone to the same frustrations as others.

Juggling children and work can be a challenge, whether you work outside the home or you are a work from home mom, but, in some ways, work from home moms face more challenges than moms who work outside the home. After all, when you're in a traditional office, you don't need to worry that a coworker will burst into the room and scream "Mommy, he took my doll," just as you are beginning an important conference call.
So how does a work from home mom manage to keep her children happy and busy while she is trying to get her job done?
First, you need to let your children know when you are not to be disturbed. Set up a schedule that includes

Quite simply, organic baby food is that which is processed without the use of artificial pesticides and/or synthetic fertilizers. While many note organic food as being either store-bought, garden grown or gathered in the wild, the correct association is certified organic foods, which are produced and labeled according to strict regulatory standards. In a number of countries, including the United States, the use of the word 'organic' in the commercial market, without the proper certification, is prohibited by law.
Organic baby food is most commonly found in a supermarket and will be labeled accordingly. Because of it's nature, organic baby food is more expensive than other types. Processed organic baby food typically includes only those ingredients that are organic and has no artificial food additives. While there seem to a number of benefits to using organic baby food, the most common reason forpurchasing this type of product is the overall quality. Increased nutritional value, the absence of residues from artificial pesticides and better taste are all positive benefits of organic baby food.
Organic baby food, because it is believed to be fresher, often carries an improved taste over other baby foods. Because organic farms are small, their products are most commonly sold close tohome . Therefore, organic baby food and other products feature a fresher taste simply because they are fresh.
By 2003, organic food products were available in 20,000 natural food stores and 73% of commercial grocery stores. While many believe that organic baby food is helpful, others are not as certain. Some believe that farming and organic fertilization may carry it's own risks that may be passed along in organic baby food.
The main debate lies with the better approach to manufacturing organic food. Is it more healthy to use artificial and synthetic products in food processing or natural fertilizer and organic farming methods? There are both sides to any debate and the questions surrounding organic baby food is no different. There is legitimate concern over contamination and safety of organic food and products, but an exact determination as to which side of the table is right has yet to be decided.

If you're nursing, keeping tabs on your baby's growth is incredibly important-your baby's life depends on it. How will you know if he's getting enough milk or nutrition? Unfortunately, the breast tissue isn't transparent and we cannot see exactly how much milk your baby is
In the first week of life, your baby will receive colostrum before your milk comes in. Not only is this rich in antibodies and helps your baby's immune system develop, but it helps him pass his first stool-meconium. This is a black, tarry substance and will be in the first diaper or two after birth. He will transition to a brown substance and then as your milk comes in, to a mustard yellow stool that is watery or loose. A bottle-fed baby will pass stools that are firmer and more clay-coloured than a breastfed baby.
Within 24-48 hours, your baby should start having wet diapers, increasing to two or three per day.
As your baby works at sucking colostrum and then milk, you should hear a pattern of "suck, suck, suck, swallow." This will be rhythmic and there will be no "clicking" noises-clicking indicates that your baby is improperly latched and potentially isn't getting a good amount of milk from you. If you hear this, unlatch him from your breast and re-attach him. If it continues, talk to your pediatrician.
In the second and subsequent weeks of life, you should also notice 6-8 wet diapers a day in addition to at least 3 stools per day. His urine should be clear (not yellow), and he should be gaining alertness as each day passes. He should also be growing and gaining weight-weight gain is the surest sign of healthy growth. Any two days in a row of deviation from the growth indicators listed should be reported to your pediatrician immediately.
The first hurdle vegans have to face is the question of feeding their children. There are lots of available food choices in the market today for vegan fare. Vegan recipes are not just salads; they extend to casseroles, baked dishes, and even desserts. Vegan ice creams, smoothies, and candies are now available in the market. These items taste just as good as the traditional dairy products minus the animal abuse. Children being raised on vegan diets won't feel any different from non-vegan kids. The trick is to include substitutes for popular kiddie treats so vegan children won't feel out of place with their non-vegan
However, kids are easier to manage than teenagers, more so when they're vegans. There are the fashion trends to reckon with: that trendy leather jacket, the fur scarf, or the chic leather boots everyone is talking about. A teenager must have them. Remind them if they're really up to wearing dead animal skins on their body and then buy them some enviable vegan fashion items. There are boutiques that sell exclusively vegan apparel. Vegan online shops also have extensive, not to mention, affordable and chic choices for vegan shoes, vegan clothes, vegan jackets, and even vegan accessories. Vegan
Vegan family support groups assert that proper education and information about animal rights and abuse is important. Understanding the vegan lifestyle makes managing and raising vegan kids easier. When they are aware and informed, kids are surprisingly easy to handle. They do make their own choices, but with information, they usually make the right choice. So they strongly advise starting vegan families to encourage each other and educate their children to make them understand why is it good to be vegan. With understanding, the kids become cooperative and healthier, and the family stays together longer.
Trampolines are safe for recreational use if proper adult supervision is present, and adherence to strict safety rules is maintained - this is the opinion of most trampoline manufacturers and supporters. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and other organizations such as the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) do not think so.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) states that 95,000 hospital emergency room-treated injuries in 1998 were associated with trampolines. 75 were kids under the age of 15. Then in 2002, the CPSC again estimated that 60,000 trampoline-related emergency room-treated injuries were kids between the ages of 5 and 14. Since 1990, the CPSC has received six reported deaths involving the seemingly harmless trampoline.
According to the CPSC, most of the trampoline associated injuries were sustained at private homes. The injuries and deaths were caused by:
1. Colliding with another person while jumping on the trampoline.
2. Landing improperly while jumping or doing stunts on the trampoline.
3. Falling or jumping off the trampoline.
4. Falling on the trampoline springs or frame.
The majority of injuries caused by using trampolines include sprains, fractures, scrapes, bruises and cuts, and serious injuries to the head and neck which can cause paralysis and death. According to theAmerican Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), disastrous cervical spine injuries are rare, but head and neck injuries constitute a considerable number of the more serious injuries requiring hospitalization.
These are the recommendations laid out by the AAP:
1. The trampoline should not be used at home, inside or outside.
2. The trampoline should not be part of routine physical education classes in schools

5. Setting the trampoline in a pit so the mat is at ground level should be considered.
6. Ladders may provide unintended access to the trampoline by small children and should not be used.
7. Only one person should use the trampoline at a time.
8. In supervised settings, the user of the trampoline should be at the center of the mat. The user of the trampoline should not attempt maneuvers beyond capability or training, thereby putting them at risk for injury.
9. Personnel trained in trampoline safety and competent spotters should be present whenever the trampoline is in use.
10. Even in supervised training programs, the use of trampolines for children younger than 6 years of age should be prohibited.
11. The trampoline must be secured and not accessible when not in use.
The CPSC also issued additional safety measures while using the trampoline which include:
1. Somersaults should not be attempted because landing on the head or neck can cause paralysis.
2. Trampolines should not be used without shock-absorbing pads that completely cover the springs, hooks, and frames.
3. Trampolines should be laced away from structures, trees, and other play areas.

If you are still not emotionally and financially ready to have a child, then the best option to prevent pregnancy is to make use of an effective birth control method. Today, there are a lot of birth control options for you to choose from. Birth control options range from implants, IUDs, pills, sterilizations, and injections.
Each year, millions of people in theUS alone are using different types of reliable birth control method. However, there are still some types of birth control that are proven to be inefficient, including condoms, spermicide, and most especially natural planning. The non-prescription and natural types of birth control are generally the least effective ones.
Despite the inefficiency reports on some birth control methods, a lot of people still prefer to use the least ineffective ones as means to prevent unwanted pregnancies. To ensure efficient protection, it is recommended to properly choose the best birth control type to use.
Choosing the best birth control
There are different types of birth control methods to choose from. The types vary according to non-prescription methods, prescribed means, and the natural planning approach.
Non-prescription:
1. Condoms
Condom is probably the most common type of non-prescription birth control method. This is widely available in drugstores and supermarkets. It is proven that the latex condoms work better in preventing pregnancies than the ones made from polyurethane.
Condoms are not advisable to use with lotions, oils, and petroleum jelly. These are, however, best used with non-oily lubricants.
2. Spermicide
You can buy this type of non-prescription birth control method in various forms such as jelly, cream, and foam at drugstores. Spermicide contains certain chemicals that kill sperm, thus, preventing pregnancy. This birth control, however, is one of the types that are proven ineffective.

Prescription:
1. Birth control pill
Generally, there are two types of birth control pills: these are the mini pills and the combined oral contraceptives. You need to get a prescription from your doctor to buy these birth control medications in drug stores.
2. Cervical cap
This is a soft rubber cup with a round rim that is inserted in a woman's vagina. It is basically smaller than the diaphragm. This is oftentimes difficult to insert, thus, requiring you to go to a clinic to have it fitted.
3. Norplant
Norplant is a type of progestin placed under the upper arm skin of a woman. Known to have two types, namely the six-rod and the two-rod, nor-plants are made from rubber rods. You need to visit a specialized doctor to have the rods removed.
Natural planning:
The natural planning method is also called as periodic abstinence or fertility awareness. This method works by monitoring the days that you and your partner cannot have sex. The abstinence period starts seven days before a woman ovulates and three days after ovulation.
To properly perform the natural planning method, you need to ask your gynecologist regarding the ovulation period. The doctor will then determine the best time for you and your partner to have sex by means of body temperature, changes in vaginal mucus, and the menstrual cycle.

Children have more energy requirements since they are in the growing stage. A nutritive diet is essential for their healthy development. Unlike adults, children are more prone to diseases. When they consume more number of calories than they actually burn, the extra calories get stored in their body in the form of fats.
Childhood obesity is of immense concern today. It has become a universal phenomenon. Children, who are overweight, tend to grow up as obese. Therefore, they develop higher risk of inheriting diseases in the later stages of life. Obesity is the gateway to many diseases such as, high blood pressure, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease etc. Health problems increase with obesity on a rise.
An obese child is often confronted with psychological distress. Teasing and bullying children about their appearance can affect their self esteem and make them lose their self-confidence. It can lead to isolation and depression at a young age.
Children generally tend to be overweight, if their parents are obese. But genetic factors are less significant in determining childhood obesity. Today, most of the children are obese because of their unhealthy eating habits and lack of exercises. High-calorie food such as junk food, beverages and confectionaries are fatty and causes obesity in children. Children spend several hours in watching television. As a result, obesity is greater in such children as they hardly devote time towards any physical activity.

Experts advise that children should not be stressed to lose weight. Instead they should be persuaded to maintain a healthy weight so that they slowly and steadily grow into it, as they get taller.
Awareness amidst parents and adults regarding childhood obesity is important. They must try to inculcate healthy eating habits in their children. Fast foods such as burgers, pizzas, macaroni, hot dogs, chocolates, cakes and crisps should be avoided. A healthy nutritive diet enriched with proteins and vitamins should be taken. Avoid taking fried foods. Try to grill or bake the food. A healthy breakfast of milk with wholemeal wheat biscuits and a fruit is a good start for the day. Keep your children away from carbonated drinks that have high sugar content. Substitute them with fresh juices and other sugar-free drinks.
Indulgence of children in activities like gardening, skipping and cycling can help to prevent obesity. Encourage your children to walk down to school or the market, instead of simply jumping into the car. Motivate them to play games such as football, rugby, tennis etc.
Studies also indicate that breastfeeding a baby may reduce his chance of becoming obese, later in life.
A little improvement in the lifestyle can protect your children from being the victims of childhood obesity.

Crete was home to one of world's most important civilisations, the Minoans who ruled the eastern Mediterranean from 2800 - 1150 BC. The art that has survived shows a refined and peace loving culture. There is a good collection in the Museum at Iraklion . Through commerce, shipping and trade with other peoples, the Egyptians, Phoenicians and Syrians they built a powerful civilisation. The Achaians and the Dorians followed. The Romans occupied Crete 69 - 330 AD making Gortyn their major town. Crete fell into the Arabic hands in 824 and was not liberated until 961). Then in 1204, the island passed to the Venetians. They fortified the island with several new castles and broke the ground for new cities of Hania and Rethimno. Inside the walls the cities developed with narrow alleys and houses, interspersed with decorative churches, fountains, piazzas and palaces the remains of which can still be seen today. In 1645 the Turks set foot on the island for the first time and in 1669 the whole of Crete fell to them. Not until 1913 was the island reunited with the rest of Greece .
In the summer the prevailing wind is the infamous Meltemi from the NW – WNW. July and August sees the winds at their strongest, force 5 – 6 on the northern coast but more often a more gentle force 3 – 4. The spring and autumn sees winds form the south, force 2 – 4. The southern coast is notorious for strong squalls the blow down from the mountains. There is little in the way of warning and they can be violent close inshore. It gets very hot on the island during the summer months with the average daily temperature reaching 35 deg C in July and August and temperatures as high as 40 deg C are not uncommon.
Kissamoss lies in the NW corner ofCrete . Yachts can berth alongside or anchor of in the harbour. There is good shelter from the W and NW but it is open to the E and SE. In a strong northerly getting away can be difficult, as the yacht will have to beat for 14 miles to escape the bay. Water is available and the re is a taverna close by. The nearest provisions are at Kastelli, which is a one mile bus journey away.
Khania is to the E. Entrance can be difficult in a strong northerly as the sea heaps up around the entrance. The marina is in the E basin. You will be directed to a berth where a laid mooring awaits. There is good shelter in all but northerly gales. There is water and electricity on the pontoons. A mini tanker can deliver fuel. All provisions can be obtained and there are good tavernas in the town. This Venetian city was for centuries the capital ofCrete and much of the charming architecture remains.
Soudhas is further to the E. It is the Greek navy's southern base and yachts have been refused entry at times. If allowed in go bow or stern to on the S quay. Shelter is extremely good. There is water on the ferry mole and fuel can be delivered. All provisions can be obtained and there is a good choice of tavernas. The military presence tends to put a bit of a dampener on things and this is not a must visit.
Yioryiopolis is a small harbour at the mouth of the river Almiros. Go alongside the quay or anchor in the bay to the north. There is good shelter except with winds from the N – NE. There is water in the village and most provisions can be obtained and there are several tavernas. The village is both attractive the locals are friendly making a visit well worthwhile.
Rethimon is an old Venetian harbour. Go alongside inside the N jetty or bow or stern to the E jetty. There is good shelter even from the Meltemi tucked under the E jetty. There is water on the quay and fuel can be delivered. All provisions can be obtained and there are some good tavernas including several fish restaurants in the Venetian harbour. This should be one of the highlights of the charter. The Venetian harbour and town are attractive and the buildings with wooden balconies are a reminder of Turkish occupation.
Iraklion is the capital of Crete . Proceed to the Venetian harbour at the W end of the main harbour. Go bow or stern to at the "marina" in the S or on the N quay. There is water on the quay and fuel can be delivered. There is excellent shopping and fresh fish is sold in the harbour. There are good tavernas many of which serve fresh fish. Try those around the market in town. The city itself has little to recommend it but visits to Knossus, an archaeological site, go early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the tourists. And the museum containing a collection from the Minoan times is worthwhile.
Khersonisos is a small harbour. Go bow to the mole or anchor off. Care is needed because depths vary throughout the harbour and the holding is poor on sand and rock. There is good shelter from the N as the harbour is open only to the SE. Water, fuel and provisions can all be found in the town. The town is a modern tourist development, full of bad architecture and obnoxious holidaymakers.
Spinalonga Lagoon is situated in the N of the larger bay Kolpos Merembellou. Yachts can anchor anywhere in the lagoon. Most provisions can be obtained at Elounda. Take a look at Nisis Spinalongas. The setting for the Venetian fort and deserted settlement are most attractive.
Further to the south is Ay Nikolaos. There is a marina on the S side of the headland. Yachts should bow or stern to where directed and use a laid mooring. There is water and electric on the pontoons. It is not very uncommon to see withdrawn and shy kids in schools. These kids are aloof and somewhat indifferent to other children. Most likely, these kids seem unhappy because they are being bullied at school.
Being bullied can be a total nightmare for any child. Although bullying can also be experienced by adults, this kind of social act frequently happens among kids or adolescents.

Many parents find the risk of baby food allergies one of the most worrying aspects of introducing new foods to their baby. But there are simple steps you can take to minimise potential problems and make your child's introduction to solid food a safe and happy one.
Allergic reactions take place when your baby's immune system mistakenly treats a harmless substance as a harmful one. Baby food allergy symptoms include diarrhea, eczema, nausea, constipation and watery or red eyes. Very rarely, a serious reaction known as allergic shock can occur. This can cause the throat and tongue to swell dangerously, which could lead to choking. In this situation, professional medical help must be sought immediately.
Many people unexpectedly find themselves in situations where they need help from child care providers, caregivers, companions, or home health aides. Because most of us don't have experience navigating the realm of domestic professional services, it's often difficult to know where to turn. A good home care agency can be a godsend, providing us with highly qualified assistants and much-needed peace of mind. Here, then, are answers to common questions about a home care agency...

Autism is a developmental disability that affects both children and adults. The symptoms of autism are usually diagnosed within the first three years of the child's life. These symptoms may be more pronounced in some than others and will often affect both the social and communication abilities of the individual. When diagnosed with autism, the individual can benefit from many of the different treatment programs and educational programs available.

During infancy, kids listen to family members and often try to replicate what they hear. As children grow, associating symbols with sounds becomes critical to language development, and experts say it's more important in learning to read than most parents realize.
When it comes to reading, children must discriminate individual sounds before they can put them together to build words. Studies show playing rhyming games and sounding out words with your children helps develop their reading skills. But what about watching television?
According to a 2004 study published in The Journal of Biological Psychiatry, associating symbols with sound, especially in the form of narrative, plays a large role in the proper development of reading skills.
Little kids often come running to their parents crying over some bruises om their knees. But as these kids grow up, they are exposed to running the risk of getting more serious injuries, brought about by their chosen lifestyles.
Knee-related injuries and medical conditions are among the common reasons many people visit their doctors nowadays. Some people may consider knee pain as a minor problem, but it can lead to serious discomfort and acute disability, depending on the severity of the damage. Several knee injuries happen due to chronic overuse, alignment problems, active sports, failure to warm up and stretch before exercise, or even daily household chores that would require extra physical effort. Other knee-related problems can also result from trauma, such as a car accident, a fall or a direct blow to your knee, as well as due to medical conditions such as arthritis, gout or chondromalacia.
Much has been said about arthritis and gout. But what about chondromalacia? Is this a new type of malady? What causes it and who gets affected by it? Chondromalacia is a knee-joint condition that needs serious attention and requires proper treatment.
Chondromalacia of the patella, also called patellofemoral pain, is a term that refers to pain arising between the patella (kneecap) and the underlying thighbone (femur). The softening of the cartilage beneath the kneecap results in small areas of breakdown and pain around the knee. Instead of gliding smoothly over the knee, the patella rubs against the thighbone everytimethe knee moves. These changes vary from mild to total erosion of the cartilage.
This condition is usually prevalent among young women, especially those who have a slight misalignment of the kneecap. Teenage girls are usually at high risk because the knee cartilage is prone to excessive and uneven pressure brought upon by the physiological changes that comes with the growth spurts of puberty. Adults over 40 may develop this condition as part of the wear-and-tear process, possibly resulting in arthritis of the kneecap or osteoarthrities of the knee joint. chondromalacia may also be caused by accidents and trauma, or abnormal pressures on the knee-joint, as experienced by athletes.

Most of the time, conservative treatments for chondromalacia are exercise programs designed to strengthen the muscles around the knee and to bring back the normal alignment of the knee cap. These exercises must be approved by a physical therapist to selectively build the thigh muscles (the quads) and realign the knee cap.
A great number of patients usually improve with conservative treatment alone and without much further need for other therapy. Only a small number of cases where kneepain persists or worsens would knee joint surgery be required. While it may not be possible to avoid chondromalacia, certain measures can be taken to reduce the risk of trauma and injuries, as well as abnormal stress on the knee. Rehabilitation programs focusing on flexibilty and strength training of the muscles that control your kneecaps can greatly help in the prevention of its development in many cases. Non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs and other arthritis pain relief medications may be prescribed to alleviate suffering from pain and inflammation.
No sight inspires more "oohs", "aahs" and similar expressions of adoration than a new baby. First time mothers may be surprised by the number of baby gifts they receive while pregnant and even after baby arrives. It is not uncommon for even strangers to bestow baby gifts upon an expectant mother.
The shower of baby gifts often doesn't end after baby is born. Traditionally, until junior is able to fend for himself, you may find yourself swamped with an incredible selection of baby gifts that serve to entertain, pamper and humor your little ones.
At some point you'll find yourself on the buying end of the totem poll. When your time comes to shower a new mom or family with baby gifts, keep in mind that not all gifts are created equally.Baby gifts can be broken down into several categories, including those for infants, toddlers and beyond.
There are several well intentioned items that end up in a corner or drawer never to be looked at again when received. To make the most of your best intention, keep in mind that infants seldom need elaborate toys and educational accessories to crowd their nursery. Some well appreciated and useful gifts for infants include the following:
Diapers - lots and lots of diapers. The typical infant goes through 5-8 diapers per day that translates into as many as 56 diapers a week or more than 200 per month. Baby may not express their enthusiasm at the offering, but a parent certainly will
Diaper service - this is a wonderful and thoughtful gift for someone considering using cloth instead of disposable diapers.
Wipes
Diaper Disposal System
Onesies of varying sizes and colors

Coming into the Toddler stage of course, everything changes! Here is where the gifts start becoming fun. Toddlers may make much better use of educational toys than infants. Among the offerings certain to be appreciated in this category include the following:
More teething toys
Anything colorful
Balls
Books
Baby Einstein or Disney Videos
Junior Bikes
Stuffed Animals
Musical Toys
Building Blocks
Toy Cars or other Vehicles
Discovery Centers
Once a toddler moves into an older stage, be sure to consult with parents regarding gifts. Find out what types of hobbies their child or children are into. In some instances some of the gifts that apply for toddlers apply to older children as well. These include bicycles, books, and animals (stuffed or otherwise).
Many well intentioned friends consider buying an older child a pet as a gift. Many well meaning parents do the same for their children, thinking having an animal will help teach responsibility. Keep in mind though that young children are still barely grasping how to take care of themselves, and while having a pet can be entertaining and enlightening, a majority of the care giving will likely still rest on the shoulders of the parents instead of the child.
